MALE - 80 - MEDICINE CAT
[attr=class,horizontalscroll]
[attr=class,boxscroll] YEW- was chosen for the dark brindle of his coat, reminding his mother of an ancient yew that laid perpendicular to camp. the yew tree, in fact, is often infamously noted for its poisonous crimson fruits. DESIGN → thick and dense, it's a miracle that his fur doesn't snag on every thorn and prickle that lines the innards of his verdant den. the ruff of his neck has notably length, as well as the hairs that guard his joints and inner portions. coloured deep hickory-brown, he is brindled over with dark classic tabby markings. tawny lines his cheeks, jaw, underbelly, and limbs, and his muzzle tapers into a dusty white. BUILD → while small in comparison to the general male populous of his age, yewthorn is not a petite figure. he is short-limbed with broad features: square shoulders and a wide crown complement his features adequately. he bears powerful flat feet, surprisingly apt and capable of swiftly dealing medicines and small substances with mastered eloquence. NOSE → tough-skinned and freckled with lentigo, yewthorn's nose is coloured a deep, rusty salmon. like the rest of his paled features, the area around his nose has attained a greyish hue to portray his age. EYES → as sharp and as shrewd as the greenleaf sun, his eyes are a bold yellow. SCENT → herbs cling to yewthorn's coat like a needy child. moons of creating mixtures and grinding poultices have stained him with the ever-present tang of plant life. VOICE → gordon ramsay he speaks in accented language, with a slight rasp to the end of his tones. however, he does not have a harsh voice; instead, it is somewhat woody, rough, but light, carrying heavy intensity when required. HEALTH → 71% for all this life has long coat has been a detriment, though as he progressively gets older and his whiskers greyer, his hygiene begins to sink. he is still relatively healthy, despite his stiffer joints and short breather. he has a particular joint in hip that loves to give him immense grief in the morning, when it's wetter and colder. additionally, his mental state is darkening after a seemingly unending string of misfortune for the forest, and most namely, skyclan. PRESET → link, created by magpei | [attr=class,boxscroll] THORN- was the suffix to drive it home that this is not a character one would not enjoy toying with. He is not a mean character, but tends to lean towards the more imprudent, cynical spectrum of feelings. → insightful despite his sardonic exterior, yewthorn is a valued source of insightful advice, not only due to his sage but his innate compassion for others. → selfless yewthorn deeply understands his role in the clan and understands well that the other members of skyclan come far before him in the run of things. he won't rest until he's certain everyone is well. → articulate being a medicine cat has taught yewthorn to learn how to better articulate himself as to sway others into his league. he can easily explain and discuss subjects regardless of topic, making himself very clear on his standpoint on them. → obstinate being incredibly, incredibly opinionated, yewthorn is an incredibly stubborn character. he sticks to what he thinks is morally (and personally) correct. → sage having so many seasons of serving skyclan beneath his claws, he has a strong mental judgment and an uncanny shrewdness. → sarcastic yewthorn's general disposition is based on healthy sarcasm. he doesn't use it to disparage others unless confronted in a hostile manner, instead keeping up an almost light-hearted bantering spirit in conversation when appropriate. → comical with his natural sarcastic abilities comes the dry, off-beat humor. he does this consciously, usually to abate tension in a situation and keep every cat on their toes. → blase especially when in the medicinal field, yewthorn can seem exceptionally indifferent. this sparks to life in his deadpan, cursory moments. → imprudent while not in the action sense, yewthorn is cheeky and wily. he can stubbornly speak out and vocalize his doubts and contradictions, winning pawns against him in his obstinate sense of pride. → straightforward yewthorn is no cat to cover up a small lie. he can be upfront, brutally sometimes; he believes that it is better to fully comprehend the truth of the situation instead of glaze it over with a little lie to make you feel better. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - → trivia; → yewthorn wanted to become a warrior as a child. he went through five moons of warrior training before his young mentor, tansyflower, became gravely ill during an exceptionally harsh leaf-fall. helpless to save his dying mentor and friend (and, secretly, love interest), he decided after her death that he wanted to become a medicine cat to prevent another tragedy like that again. → yewthorn has feline lentigo simplex, a harmless condition that is akin to freckles on a human face. it makes spots appear on one's lips, around the eyes, or on the nose. | CONNECTIONS & TIES; [attr=class,boxscroll]→ immediate family father, redfox; a huge dark ginger mottled tabby male with deep green eyes, deceased mother, brownbriar; a light brown tabby female, white features, golden eyes, deceased younger brothers,
nieces & nephews,
grandparents,
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - → love life sexual orientation, yewthorn is a grey-asexual and grey-romantic. he seldom, seldom attains any sort of attraction towards any cat. but he does understand it. sexual affiliates, none former mates, none current mate, none offspring, none - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - → education current rank, medicine cat previous ranks, kit, apprentice, medicine cat apprentice mentor, tansyflower; a pretty ginger-and-white female with blue eyes, deceased medicine cat mentor, mousesong; a dark brown female with green eyes, deceased list of apprentices,

religion of starclan. as of late, due to starclan's infighting, he is believing in acting without their usually wise guidance. but he looks forward to when they finally regain their bearings, so he can personally tell some ancestor off for their incompetence. he is upset that a portion of them wishes to change the warrior code, thinking these wayward ancestors impractical and dangerous. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - → politics, yewthorn aspires to continue as skyclan's medicine cat for many moons more. as he is gaining in age, he has taken up marshpaw as his first medicinal apprentice. he does not wish to transfer into the life of a senior warrior. he does not wish to become an elder, either, calling it the "easy way out." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - → personal, he is not actively seeking a romantic partner. being skyclan's medicine cat, he is forbidden from falling in love and fathering offspring. fortunately, he has no desire for such sentimental luxuries, especially after the recent political dramas regarding the rule. | HISTORY; [attr=class,boxscroll]→ synopsis yewthorn has been dealing with leaves for as long as the cats of skyclan can remember. having been its sole medicine cat for a well forty moons now, he is one of the eldest and most sage characters in the forest. but, as times grow ever darker, can he handle help skyclan push through it? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - → pre-roleplay backstory → yewkit is born in late leaf-fall to the honorable warriors redfox and brownbriar. he is an only kit, but from only his second week of life showed vigor and audaciousness. he has a relatively calm youth, growing into an apprentice without loss nor strife. → from the start, yewkit had a tendency to speak out. he had a bit of a mouth, and in one instance he went up to a band of eaglestar and some of his senior warriors and asked why one of them looked like a badger. they only laughed, but brownbriar was swift to rush yewkit back into the nursery to chastise him. → yewpaw is assigned to the young warrior tansyflower in the middle of newleaf for his warrior training. the warrior is old but not unkind, teaching the keen yewpaw with fervor and all the patience in the world. the two grow exceedingly close. → yewpaw shows much promise despite only receiving a pawful of moons as a warrior apprentice. however, as the leaf-fall season deepens and he reaches his first year of age, tansyflower falls ill with an intense case of greencough. → yewpaw is devastated that tansyflower had gotten sick after hearing of fateful tales of cats being taken by the villainous disease. he is assigned a temporary mentor in another warrior, but on his off-time could be seen lingering around mousesong's medicine den in order to get glimpses of his real mentor. → his second snow arrives, and tansyflower only gets worse as the climate crisps. mousesong begins to notice yewpaw's lingering presence, and begins to invite him in to care for his ill mentor, but not to get too close. eventually, yewpaw begins to become inquisitive as to what mousesong is doing to make tansyflower better. → yewpaw's father, redfox, is disdainful of his recent behavior. he had been skipping out on warrior training with his mentor in favor of staying with mousesong and tansyflower. he confronts yewpaw about his choices, but the younger tom is steadfast and unmovable. → after the first week of snow, tansyflower dies. yewpaw is devastated that he couldn't do something more while mousesong consoles him that it isn't his fault - he wasn't a medicine cat, so he couldn't have done anything, she stated. but yewpaw was resilient, turning to the medicine cat and declaring that he wanted to be able to do something if this ever happened again. he wanted to become her appretice. → yewpaw is taken to eaglestar to discuss his change in rank. redfox intervenes the private session, demanding that his son could not become the next medicine cat; he was to become a clan warrior. mousesong points out that it is yewpaw's life and therefore his choice, and redfox storms out, much to yewpaw's silent dismay. → yewpaw is publicly deemed mousesong's new medicine cat apprentice. much of skyclan is unsurprised by this change, as he had been seen around the medicine cat's den for weeks at that point. → yewpaw devotes his first moons as the medicine cat apprentice familiarizing himself with cold and disease herbs. of course mousesong finds ways to squeeze in remedies for injures and infections, as those tend to be frivolously more common than illness in skyclan. → redfox continues to grow father distant from yewpaw, unwilling to believe that his son would rather become a medicine cat than a warrior. yewpaw doesn't want to confront his father, and ends up letting a grudge build and build, unwilling to go to him and talk things through. → many moons are passed as yewpaw works dutifully alongside mousesong to learn the ways and customs of the medicine cats, how to treat an aching belly, how to fix a splintered leg. he has long since lost any desires he might have mustered near the beginning of his life as a medicine cat to become a warrior. → as he struck his twenty-second moon, after ten moons of rigorous medicine cat training, yewpaw was taken to the moonstone and awarded his full medicine cat name from mousesong. his dreams were incredibly detailed and filled with honor that night, and he returns to camp beaming. → seasons pass without serious incident. there was an instance where a badger stampeded the campgrounds and took the lives of numerous cats including a kitten, as well as injuring several others. there were also other predatory attacks for quite some time before things calmed and skyclan continued its passive disposition in the forest. → mousesong dies of old age after some time. having served skyclan for eight long and prosperous years as its medicine cat. the clan is not very shocked, nor is yewthorn, but they honored mousesong's death with a flower-filled visit to brokentrees to bury her. → moons later brownbriar comes to yewthorn stating that she is experiencing fatigue and feels heavy. after inspecting his mother, fearing she is ill, he comes to the discovery that she is expecting a litter. brownbriar is slightly distraught, and explains to yewthorn that redfox wanted to father another litter so that he could have a warrior. → yewthorn feels betrayed and jealous of the unborn kits, knowing full well that they would receive their father's unbridled love. regardless, he helps his seasoned mother through the pregnancy, keeping tabs on her often and ensuring she isn't doing any strenuous activity. → brownbriar's kits come, and she has a litter of two toms. they are named nettlekit and redkit, the latter being named after their proud father. as yewthorn cleans up the space to leave his parents to tend to their new young kittens, redfox makes a rude off-hand comment. yewthorn is swift to retort and retaliate, startling brownbriar and thereby the kittens curled at her stomach. when he realizes what he's done, he storms out of the nursery. → despite his first initial thoughts about his new little brothers, he feels obligated to help look after them. redkit in particular is keen on intruding in yewthorn's space, popping up in the herb cache and asking what this and that was and why it smelled so awful. he grows endeared to the exuberant kit's behavior, despite his namesake. → for some time, he believes redkit might be interested in becoming his apprentice. however, yewthorn is still relatively young, being roughly forty moons of age and far too young, in his opinion, to take on an apprentice. luckily redkit falls out of love with herbs and takes up a keen interest in hunting and fighting alongside his more austere littermate. → redkit and nettlekit become warrior apprentices, and yewthorn simmers not for them, but for the pride and love in his father's eyes at their apprentice ceremony. → redpaw and nettlepaw enjoyed playing innocent jokes on yewthorn, ranging from bringing him pigeons which he loathed to putting damp moss-balls in his bedding. they grew surprisingly fast, most notably redlark, who grew to be taller than both his littermate and the medicine cat. he would sometimes tease yewthorn about his stout stature, but the medicine cat took it with a smirk and an equal retort. → redpaw ends up breaking a forepaw after climbing too high up in an oak tree, and yewthorn is responsible for the young cat's care while his paw heals in its splint. → a band of warriors rushes into yewthorn's den to announce that redfox has fallen from a tree and died upon impact - he had landed on his head. yewthorn is shocked, but remains obstinately blase as he walks out to watch skyclan leave for the funeral at brokentrees. redfox had been unfair and mean to him, swearing and griping about having his eldest son work with leaves between his teeth instead of prey. but yewthorn never regretted the path he chose. → he stays with redpaw, unable to attend their dead father's ceremony at brokentrees. instead of letting redpaw grieve and mourn alone, he tells his brother stories of battles from before he was born, to gatherings and crazy medicine cat meetings at the moonstone to distract him. → shortly after redfox's death, brownbriar comes to yewthorn claiming she'd been feeling ill. yewthorn believes that she is suffering from heartache, though after a close scrutiny of his mother determines that she has grown gaunt and weak, with tired, crusty eyes. he speaks with eaglestar and brownbriar in turn, and they determine that the old she-cat is allowed to retire from her duties which were wearing her thin after her mate's unforeseen demise. → nettlepaw becomes a warrior before redpaw, earning the name nettlenose for his tracking skills. two moons later, redpaw is made into redlark after his paw heals and he is able to return to warrior training with his mentor. → after a battle with thunderclan over preserving tallpines, the skyclan deputy asterleap succumbs to his battle injuries. mousesong and yewthorn had struggled to bandage and treat the deputy's wounds, but it wasn't enough to save the deputy. eaglestar elects teaselblaze, a young and inexperienced warrior, in yewthorn's opinion, to replace him. → yewthorn is skeptical of teaselblaze at first. she was asterleap's apprentice, so he didn't think she was unintelligent; moreso unprepared for the role. but she showed to understand and acknowledge the codes and how to run things, so he lamented on his doubts and opened up. → as the old tom had been for seasons, eaglestar began to become decripit and senile from his very old age. yewthorn comes to his den each day to give him strengthening herbs, but knows well that his leader is going to die. → eaglestar, dies in his sleep, and yewthorn has no time to experience a sensation of grief or dissappointment in himself before he takes teaselblaze to the moonstone to receive her nine lives. while walking across the moors, they encounter claystar who safely leads them across the heath and to highstones. teaselblaze becomes teaselstar. → yewthorn ponders who teaselstar might choose as her deputy, and is shocked by her electing bramblethorn, the non-believer, as her deputy. he is tempted to confront the leader about her choice, ardent that a cat who doesn't believe in starclan could never be fit to lead a clan. what of the warrior code? of his nine lives ceremony? every time he tries to speak with her, he is shut down, so he remains quietly in distaste of the new skyclan deputy. → brownbriar dies after only two seasons of being an elder, weakened by leaf-fall and the coming leaf-bare. yewthorn is grievous that he couldn't do anything but watch as his herbs did nothing as his mother fell deeper into the clutches of starclan. → a young warrior apprentice called marshpaw comes to yewthorn saying that he had been having excessively vivid dreams, and yewthorn, despite himself, realizes that it's an allusion to taking the apprentice on as his successor. → marshpaw is highly repulsive of the idea of being a medicine cat apprentice. it takes much reasoning and persuasion before marshpaw is even remotely okay with the idea of becoming yewthorn's apprentice, yewthorn grows somewhat fond of marshpaw in time. → ROLE-PLAY START 70 MOONS, rumor spreads rapidly around skyclan that shellstar, riverclan's leader, has died, replaced by his inexperienced and unworthy deputy koiflower. yewthorn doesn't show much care for the situation, despite skyclan's global apprehension towards the political matter. marshpaw learns from redlark that yewthorn was once a warrior apprentice. he asks yewthorn about it in the solidarity of his den, he confirms marshpaw's suspicions. marshpaw is incredulous as to why, and yewthorn talks about tansyflower and how mousesong taught him, and how this was the path he had wanted to walk since tansyflower's first sneeze. he could quite literally see the change behind marshpaw's visage as a new understanding is reached between them. the sun before the full moon, teaselstar approaches. she seems apprehensive of the gathering, and yewthorn provides insight to keep a blase face, even if koistar's leadership is true. but he still thinks that claystar is the only even-tempered cat who could ever stand on the great rock. drama breaks out on the great rock as teaselstar doesn't acknowledge koistar's ascension from deputy. shortly after koistar acts for a new addition to the warrior code: an honor-based code, that many were convinced was an unspoken code-- do not kill unless necessary or in self-defense. yewthorn already believes that code had already existed- even if not in written form. many other cats believe so, as well, and vocal outbreak rises from the audience. teaselstar is the first to retaliate. the leaders argue, voices roaring and hackles bristling, and their respective clans do the same. claystar is the cat to break the uproar, putting an early end to the gathering and sending the terrified clans back home. he finds teaselstar when the clan returns home, but she flees to rowanwing. he finds her later, relaying his concern. 71 MOONS, after returning from patrol, teaselstar announces to yewthorn and bramblestripe that skyclan has seemingly forged an alliance with doestar, and thereby thunderclan. yewthorn is not exactly troubled by this new state of affairs, but is keen to speak with starclan about the stirring matters. as he travels to the moonstone with the other medicine cats, he experiences a dream not exactly startling, but deterring. he wishes to speak with teaselstar on the matter, though is unsure of the correct time. he even considers keeping the dream out of her paws: it may only agitate her further. he learns through teaselstar, who finds herself unable to attend the gathering, that bramblethorn will speak on behalf of skyclan. yewthorn is outraged, thinking foully of the non-believing bramblethorn and believing firmly he has no right to speak beneath the starry silverpelt for a whole clan. martenthroat confronts him when he voices these concerns to wolfmask, and hastily, harshly shuts bramblethorn's mate down. it goes through regardless, but yewthorn is none too happy. he also speaks briefly with sheepleap during the gathering, telling her that his goldenrod cache has run dry. they agree to meet and trade herbs. they meet at a later date, where yewthorn brings lionflame along hesitantly. 72 MOONS, he speaks with wolfmask and willowthorn briefly during a cloudburst, where the three generally complain about the poor newleaf weather. he learns a few days later that redlark and flintsong have gotten together as he had mocked. a dog attacks a patrol consisting of snaketalon, rowanwing, willowthorn, wolfmask, laurelnose, and redlark along the riverclan border. snaketalon perishes from a throat wound before he even arrives to camp, but yewthorn and marshpaw rush to treat the others -- although laurelnose escaped without a mark on her. as tradition begs, he does attend snaketalon's broken trees ceremony, though says nothing himself. he, as a last desperate measure to assure skyclan's safety outside the camp wall, approaches bramblethorn for the first time since he declared disbelief against starclan. their talk is brusque, albeit when bramblethorn asks if yewthorn can tell if snaketalon ascended, yewthorn wisely retorts if the deputy would even believe him if his brother had. a brief argument escalates but settles before it got violent, with yewthorn leaving when he was satisfied with the state of the clan's defense. while at the moonstone under the half-moon, yewthorn has a terrifying dream that leaves his head roaring with the echo of vicious thunder and the wailing of cats, the red of blood tainting his mind, and the thunderous roar of rushing water. when he returns home, he learns from an angered teaselstar that riverclan had threatened skyclan apprentices. he doesn't sleep for roughly two nights after piecing it together. marshpaw finds and consoles him later when he is weary and despondent. 73 MOONS, the gathering is chaotic. teaselstar (in yewthorn's mind) rightfully exposes riverclan for their treachery over the dog and the apprentices. koistar spits right back, blaming teaselstar for the clan's misfortune. yewthorn hisses up to koistar on the rock how she had begun all of skyclan's issues in the first place. all leaders show their teeth before the sky is covered with clouds and a storm swells, sending all the clans scurrying home. he decides he needs to tell teaselstar about the dream, determined to voice his concerns on the ascending threat of koistar and riverclan. doestar is led to skyclan camp by teaselstar, wolfmask, and wrenpaw, along with a cluster of her warriors. yewthorn is irate and storms in on the leaders' conference, demanding answers; and that he gets. thunderclan and skyclan strike up alliance together, officially, and plan to take sunningrocks from riverclan by intimidation factor. two suns later, yewthorn is hiding in the sidelines as the war rages on; it's useless, petty fighting, with he and marshpaw rushing to tend to cats grievously injured. despite his prior thoughts, he leaves the battlefield gaunt and tired. he had never seen a battle so vicious in all his years. 74 MOONS, yewthorn spends a week treating the most injuries, deep and thin, alike. marshpaw's studious determination to heal - alongside a new, phlegmatic outlook on the state of the clans - gets the older medicine cat thinking. he has to relay to martenthroat that he has lost his sight due to harsh eye injuries after fighting a riverclan warrior. he also cares mindfully for redlark, who went unconscious and suffered mild head trauma during the war. at the next gathering, starclan in the forms of the forest's old leaders, deputies, medicine cats, and warriors alike come down to the fourtrees. there is infighting, dead leaders contradicting one another and their clanmates. yewthorn is silent throughout the entire ordeal, not thinking he remembers how to move. but he hears everything, from shellstar's vindiction to eaglestar's defiance. he speaks with teaselstar later on the matter, on starclan's internal conflict, and the two decide that skyclan's fate will be taken into their own paws, since starclan has no means of order. starclan remains silent the next time he journeys to the moonstone, deepening his frustrations. he is frustrated that they are keen to invest their trust in sheepleap from windclan, but not him, who is older and sager. 75 MOONS, he confers with teaselstar (after stealing her basking rock, mind you, in true yewthorn etiquette,) about the gathering to occur that night. she consoles that if something arises, it is not her doing. she turns out to be correct. shockingly, all five leaders make their cases, but the gathering is in outcry after sheepleap intervenes, and announces she would like to change the medicine cat code: to allow a medicine cat a mate and kits. yewthorn is ludicrous at the thought and loudly voices his opinion, astonished at the windclan medicine cat. the bar only drops lower when she announces she is in love with cloverstep, a feat he wasn't unaware of, but he is shocked she had the gall to propose a new law for such selfish reasons. he shouts at her, before all the five clans, and grassstar voices her respect for him for speaking for the stars. stoically, he replies, 'someone has to when they can't even speak for themselves now.' not even a quarter moon later do deer stampede the skyclan clearing, after the windclan moor catches alight in the far distance, where only the most astute can pick up the glow of the flames through the trees. yewthorn realizes too late that the thundering in the distance is from deer, as one of the first few to enter the clearing from overhead crashes into his den, and its massive form sends the ancient rocks tumbling down to blockade the entry. he is helpless, too small and too weary to move them on his own, and he cries out. all but one seems to hear his outcries, but after only a moment of scrabbling from the outside-- it stops with a sickening crack. yewthorn, desperate to exit and see the damage, maybe even save the cat's life, tries harder to free the boulders, but ends up wounding himself with a twisted paw. later, teaselstar, rowanwing, moosepaw, duskstorm, and the thunderclan warrior rowancloud return to camp. the warriors free yewthorn while teaselstar grieves bramblethorn, yewthorn's original saviour. distraught, yewthorn approaches bramblethorn to pay his last respects, apologizing for their life of bickering, and wishes him a safe journey to starclan in the very end. marshpaw approaches him the next day as the half-moon rises into the sky, and proposes bringing reinforcements to prevent sheepleap and cloverstep from speaking with starclan at mothermouth, believing the windclan medicine cat's interference at the last gathering was the reason for the fire and stampede. yewthorn readily agrees, along with thicketberry, and they bring three skyclan warriors with them. cloverstep is angered by the motion, and after batpaw, her newest apprentice, returns with a league of shadowclan warriors they are forced to allow cloverstep and sheepleap in. starclan remains silent. suns later, teaselstar is ready to appoint her new deputy. yewthorn is leery, as he had not sought counsel with the injured leader, and is ludicrous when she elects lionflame - the former rogue - as her deputy. he voices these concerns, quite loudly, in from of the clan, and is confronted by duskstorm, who is abhorrent at his judgment of the warrior. he does not believe that a cat born outside the clans could ever lead a clan, and duskstorm is disgusted by his argument, storming off. he later speaks, laments, and patronizes (all in the same discussion) with hailstrike later on the clan's dipping mentality. 76 MOONS, he attends the gathering, and ignores both sheepleap and cloverstep with adamance, remaining beside thicketberry for its entirety. he watches as tigereye, a shadowclan warrior, goes feral and tries to attack two of his clanmates, and vulturestar is prompt to brutally murder his warrior before the entire fourtrees clearing. he is disgusted by the shadowclan leader, for both the murder and for allowing tigereye to the gathering. he misses the half-moon meeting due to a flaring hip pain, growing progressively more upset and helpless when, even in his den, they don't even attempt to reach out to him. emberheart later finds yewthorn and asks to speak with him, which he hesitantly agrees to, and once they leave camp emberheart relays something ominous she saw. he tells her to keep quiet, for the sake of preventing religious hysteria. the morning after, flintsong comes to him after claiming discomforts, and he examines and relays to her that she is expecting. teaselstar comes to him and marshpaw asking for traveling herbs before she leads moosepaw, molepaw, and sand to mothermouth. yewthorn is affronted at their audacity, but provides the medicine regardless. marshpaw ends up showing him the secret herb garden he had been building at the skyclan ravine to help lift his spirits. later, yewthorn speaks with frostpaw and learns a little more about thicketberry's young apprentice. 77 MOONS, yewthorn attends the gathering where duskfrost, shadowclan's deputy, asks the other clans for herbs. only slightly curious as to why, he sides with teaselstar and doestar when they say they cannot spare any herbs. he takes herbs to the sickly queen flintsong, later leaving the camp with the thunderclan warrior elkstep to retrieve more herbs for the females in the nursery. the two banter about shadowclan, and elkstep learns a little about herbs in the meantime. he is sleeping when marshpaw shouts him awake due to a shadowclan ambush. quickly, he comes to the conclusion that they are invading for thunderclan's herbs. however, due to the quick action of some determined skyclan warriors, not one shadowclan cat gets to enter the medicine den. when he is able to exit, when he notices vulturestar dying in the middle of the clearing, he spots batpaw and is enraged, confronting the small shadowclan medicine cat apprentice and, in appropriate response, tells him to shove off. he spends his next few suns tending to the three injured thunderclan warriors with the other medicine cats. he takes marshpaw and frostpaw to mothermouth, prompt to lead the other medicine cats inside. he distinctly ignores batpaw, still miffed that he would allow shadowclan to perform such a drastic feat. he awards marshpaw with his full medicine cat name under the gleam of the moonstone, marshclaw, as he had the heart of a valiant skyclan warrior, and the prowess and illustriousness of a medicine cat. skyclan is prompt to leave after shadowclan's invasion, returning to their refurbished ravine within four suns of the ambush. yewthorn and marshclaw rehabilitate their den, shifting the boulders and preparing a fresh herb garden near the patient cove for the coming cool seasons. 78 MOONS, before riverclan is able to file into the hollow for the next gathering, shellstar materializes on the summit of the Great Rock, behind the five Clan representatives, and exposes egretcloud as the true culprit of his assassination. the clans fued, and a deceased riverclan warrior transpires to challenge shellstar, who stands for justice and the warrior code, sympathizing with a leader-killer. yewthorn is quick to choose the side of the traditionalists. as he put it, he stood for justice and the warrior code, never for shellstar. yewthorn is notably wary and frustrated with skyclan cats who sided as revolutionists, cats keen to change the code and throw the forest into anarchy. 79 MOONS, he proceeds over a ceremony of avowed souls for teaselstar and rowanwing, and shares last words with flintsong, skyclan's succumbing queen, as he stays in the camp for her on the night of the half-moon, sending marshclaw instead. when cloverstep and frostpaw enter the gathering late, the prior injured-- who frostpaw confessed thicketberry was the culprit of-- he is hesitant to abandon his bitterness for the shadowclan medicine cat, but assists her regardless, as another medicine cat. he's extra snippy and austere, though, to make up for his embitterment. he still does not condone she and sheepleap. doestar approaches he and marshclaw, inquiring if they could take over the little remainder of frostpaw's training, and the skyclan herbalists readily agree to the comprise to monitor her for however much longer she so required. 80 MOONS, he old now bOIIIII | ARTWORK; [attr=class,boxscroll]art © tahari art © magpei art © tahari (and good work on that rowanwing. seems my time for guidance is up, hm?) lionflame, [ frustation / neutral / begrudging ] what do you stand for? can you possibly understand what's transpiring now, about the code? ☀ marshclaw, [ confidant / knowing / affection / deep trust / proud ] a courageous name for an even more courageous medicine cat. a warrior's heart, i said-- and you live up to it every second i look at your ugly face! hah! regardless. . all pleasantries aside, i'm proud to stand with you against this madness threatening our forest. and, if you don't mind, i want you to be the cat marching over to thunderclan. i'll come over every once in a sun-- frankly, like you said, i'd probably fall and not be able to get back up if a root catches me off-guard. hmmph. ☀ redlark, [ trust / familial love / worry / apologetic ] there's nothing that i could have done, redlark. there weren't enough herbs in the forest that could have saved her. i want to say that she's in a better place, yet. starclan remains as obstinate as ever. amberblaze, [ neutral / like ] you seem worried about redlark-- he'll be fine, i'll make very sure of it. in the meantime, rest while those webs of yours work their magic. duskstorm, [ unsure / annoyed / remorse ] even though i still can't see you eye-to-eye knowing you're just-- a beacon for their kind. . hmmph. look at me, a sentimental old badger; i don't want to die knowing the last thing we did was sneer and fight. but i don't want to be swayed. that much is fate. laurelnose, [ frustrated / neutral / inquisitive ] hmm. i wouldn't pin you as a cat for tradition. let's see if that theory's correct. loonkit, [ annoyance / amusement ] brash, for a little kit! honestly, i'm not sure where that sentiment came from, knowing your father! and keep out of the honey, it's not for you. wolfmask, [ respect / friend / concern / wry amusement ] it was inevitable, her passing, you know. the eldest cat in skyclan, she was-- but, now i believe that's me. uncanny. don't let it dampen you, your kits need you. rowanwing, [ amusement / acquaintance / respect / expectation ] be good to her. willowthorn, [ like / amusement ] really, i think you and wolfmask are the worst duo i can think of! of course, i mean that in a good way! sand, [ annoyed / indifference / distaste ] teaselstar took you to the moonstone, did she? what, does she think starclan's stooped so low now they'll speak to strays? emberheart, [ annoyed / concern / confusion ] lo and behold, she walks the path of a warrior. and it looks like you've already got some problems to juggle. keep your mouth quiet about what you told me. i don't want this getting out. moleflower, [ inquisitive / neutral ] i hope you meant what you said at your ceremony. mooseblaze, [ doubt / neutral / inquisitve ] don't think i didn't see you over there with that wayward riverclan warrior that gathering. i hope you meant what you said at your ceremony, about upholding and protecting our noble code. i don't appreciate a liar. THUNDERCLAN doestar, [ high respect ] nothing i wouldn't expect out of a sensible clan leader. i'm proud to share the same trees as thunderclan. gorsetalon, [ neutral / amused ] a pity sheepleap had to step up like that. you looked so pleased there were no misgivings up until she got up there. ☀ frostpaw, [ neutral / thoughtful / sympathy / loyalty ] a little snowpuff like you doesn't need that weight on your shoulders. still not where quite where you lay on the rules, but you're going to need some assistance pushing through this. marshclaw and i are here if you call for some. elkstep, [ amusement / acquaintance / respect ] i'm satisfied to see that you used that scarred head of yours correctly at the gathering. i can respect any cat who can recognize idiocy when they see it! ☀ thicketberry, [ confusion / distrust ] and here i was left to think that i had at least one sensible partner in this forest, aside from marshclaw. i'm not here to say she didn't have it coming; it was a hypocrite's move, you realize-- breaking the code. frankly, i don't know what's been on in your head lately.
